If you are planning your first RV trip with your family, you’re probably looking for ways to improve your time at the campground with your kids. Below, I have compiled a list of my favorite ways to get kids engaged and enjoying their time while being unplugged and away from the buzz and bustle of daily life.
Plan Games for Them
Planning games is one of the best ways to keep your kids entertained and having fun during your stay. Depending on the age of your kids, you can set up a scavenger hunt for items you’re likely to find around the campsite or bring along outdoor games like corn hole, bocce ball, and more.
Let Them Help Plan Your Outings
Another great way to engage your kids in your camping trip and enjoy themselves is by involving them in the planning process. Take some time beforehand to research the area and let them pick a place to visit or an outing together as a family.
Get a Site Next to the Playground
This tip never fails for kids of most ages, even teenagers, to get a campsite next to the playground. This is where all the kids at the campground socialize, and it’s a great way for them to make friends at the campground while staying within eyesight of your camper.
Bring Bikes
As a kid, one of my favorite things to do at the campground was to ride my bike. In fact, I would leave the campsite early in the morning and ride circles around the campground until I knew it by heart. This is a great way to get some exercise, it gave me some freedom to explore, but it was also a safe and quick way to spend some time away from the campsite.
Plan for a Rainy Day
Lastly, no matter where you plan to go or the weather forecast, plan for rain. Bring plenty of tarps to cover all your outdoor things in case of rain, and have a plan for your family if you have to spend a day cooped up in the RV. My favorite recommendations for days like this are family movie marathons, board games, or cooking together in your RV’s kitchen.
